Shaitan cattery is a C.F.A. registered cattery, located in sunny Peoria, Arizona just outside of Phoenix. We breed and show both long hair and short hair American Curls with much pride and joy. Over the years we have concentrated our efforts on broadening the gene pool in our line by the use of domestic out crosses that meet the standard to type as closely as possible. We out cross for health and then line breed back to maintain type. We also have a certain personality and temperament that we are attempting to maintain, as the cats we started with are just as sweet as pudding pie and we want it to stay that way.
Our love is the American Curl: their gracefully curled ears with all that fluff drew us to them, but their kittenish, loving and delightful personalities keep them close to our hearts. They are by our side and on our laps morning, noon and night.There is no other breed quite like this. They are the best playmates a person could ever hope for and will entertain and delight their owners throughout their lives, never losing that playful side of themselves. Our 14 year old foundation cat GC, BW Subet's CommandCurl Will Riker is still very frisky and playful. He is often found running like a nut about the house with the kittens.
We have found the American Curl mothers to be extremely attentive and protective of their babies. They tend to take their time geting to the weaning stage. Most don't bother until the kittens are 10-12 weeks of age and some nurse even longer. The American Curl mother is one of the best mothers we have found. We raise our kittens underfoot as much as possible. They are fed as natural a diet as we can provide and we keep the use of chemicals to a minimum. We prefer to feed a raw meat diet and use herbal remedies instead of western type medications. We have many domestics in sanctuary here who are in their late teens and early twenties. We believe it is because of the holistic lifestyle approach that they are living so long and enjoying a reasonable good health in their old age.
We have been raising and showing this awesome breed of cats for 13 years now. There is nothing else I would rather be doing. It has been an experience well worth the time and effort; I would not trade this for anything.
